We are glad to be able to offer to you the Brightneedle designs. Liz and Ann do a wonderful job on their designs. They have such a style about them. On the back of most of the patterns is a cute little story about the design. This might be about what inspired them to design the pattern, or about the fibers used in the design, or it could be a little history about items that appear in the patterns. This is a nice added touch, and the design so much more meaningful.

Brightneedle has a passion for stitching one-over-one on high-count linen. That is how their cover models are usually pictured. They do design each piece in a manner so that it will look equally lovely stitched over two linen threads and on fabrics other than linen. They have started to dabble also in the over two patterns. We will note that on the pattern description when that applies, so you know when it is an over two project.

Brightneedle uses a wide variety of fibers in their patterns and they recommend that you use the fibers called for in the pattern to be sure that your finished project takes the same look as theirs. In some cases they have conversions on the chart for you and they have taken great care in converting the flosses that they use to DMC or Anchor. They strive to create a harmonious palette, so converting to fibers other than what they have given you may give these wonderful designs a totally different look.

If you are not an one-over-one stitcher, and like to stitch over 2 fabric threads, then use the following to compute your design area if stitching over two fabric threads:

To compute the design area, divide the stitch count by fabric count.
Example: stitch count is 80w x 100h and fabric is 32ct. Divide 80 by 16 (you take ½ of the fabric count when stitching over two threads) = 5. Divide 100 by 16 (=6.25). Design area is 5” wide x 6.25” high.
